Less-Stress MAKE-AHEAD Green Bean Casserole
Get ready to make the best green bean casserole of all time - ahead of time. This is such a great Thanksgiving recipe for anyone looking to get ahead of the last-minute business AND wow the crowd! This recipe features fresh green beans and a homemade cream of mushroom sauce that simply can’t be beat!
I’ll be listing out the ingredients and the recipe verbatim for you hello, but if you would like the printer-friendly version, you can get that here:

Ingredients
1 ½ pounds (24 ounces) Green Beans, washed and trimmed
¼ cups Unsalted Butter
1 Yellow Onion Finely Diced
8 ounces White Button Mushrooms wiped cleaned roughly chopped
⅓ cup All-Purpose Flour
2 ½ cups Heavy Whipping Cream
½ cup Unsalted Chicken Broth
1 ½ teaspoons Kosher Salt
1 teaspoon Black Pepper
½ teaspoon Soy Sauce
8 ounces Cheddar Cheese freshly grated
1 cup French’s Crispy Fried Onions
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350°, and have ready a large pot of boiling water and a greased 9x13 casserole dish.
Carefully add the prepared green beans to the pot of boiling water and allow them to cook for 5-7 minutes, just until al dente. Remove from the stovetop and strain into a colander. Run under cold water until cool to the touch and no longer steaming. Set aside until ready to use.
Add butter to a large saucepan over medium heat and allow to melt. Add the onion and mushrooms to the Dutch oven and sauté 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Sprinkle the flour over the mixture and stir to coat. Add the cream a splash at a time, whisking after each addition until the mixture resembles pudding. Stream in the remaining cream and the chicken broth. Stir to combine and allow to simmer and slightly thicken about 6 minutes. The sauce will taste salty.
Remove from the heat and stir in 1 cup of the Cheddar, salt, pepper and soy sauce. Add in green beans and stir. Transfer the contents to the casserole dish.
Top with remaining Cheddar, cover with aluminum foil, and bake for 25 minutes. Remove from the oven and sprinkle fried onions across the top. Return to the oven uncovered to bake for an additional 10 minutes or until bubbly and the onions have deepened in color.
3-4 days in advance:
Great the cheese and store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
2 days in advance:
Chop the fresh veggies. For this recipe, that includes onions, mushrooms, and fresh green beans. The mushrooms may oxidize a bit in the refrigerator, but you don't have to worry about aesthetics for this veggie. It is going to be sautéed in the sauce!
1 day in advance:
You will make and assemble the filling one day in advance. Once the filling is brought together, transfer it to your baking dish and allow it to cool slightly. Then, cover with aluminum foil and refrigerate.
Day of:
The day you plan to serve your green bean casserole, you will need to set it out on the counter at room temperature for about 30 minutes before baking. It is important that you remove the chill from the casserole before going into the oven or it will require an extended bake time.
After baking:
This casserole keeps wonderful in a warmer drawer covered with aluminum foil for about 45 minutes. Meaning you can make the Thanksgiving side dish casserole ahead of time…even after it's baked!

Baking soda is used in cookies to keep them soft and fluffy. Maybe it was not a mistake baking powder makes a harder cookie. I use baking soda in my chocolate chip cookie all the time.

La Preferida refried beans have a more authentic consistency than Old El Paso and it tastes better. You could have also tried the La Preferida refried beans with mild green chilis.
I think I would elevate my tuna Mac with bacon and then the next time I make it I’d try it with Parmesan cheese. 😁

Try waiting until the end to trim the crusts off. Look at the bread like a canvas, crust as the frame, and allow working off it. Keep juicier parts, especially tomato, from direct contact with bread so not soggy. Stack. Compress. Trim off crusts. Try toasted and mustard rather than mayo.

Why did my mixture turn out watery/runny 🥲
What if I want to add buttermilk instead of just regular milk. I read that I would need to add baking soda to activate the acidity in the buttermilk. How much would I add to this mix and how much buttermilk would I add to this when cooking? This so far is the best mix I have found.
